HEY, I’M STEPH.
I’m Steph.
Master of Design.
Photography Enthusiast.
Creative Writing Fanatic.
I am an outgoing, friendly individual that enjoys using my imagination and creativity to generate solutions to different problems. I love a challenge and I am constantly trying to find ways to improve.
After choosing Product Design at GCSE and again at A-Level, I decided to go to University and study Product Design at Coventry. I chose to study Product Design as I felt as though that was well-rounded. I mean everything we see is a product, right? I’ve worked on projects from the initial research to thumbnail design, from the concept phase to the final design. I loved designing and creating products but the UX/UI side definitely stood out to me.
Since University, I have taught myself HTML/ CSS coding and I can implement both JavaScript and C# in order to create working MVC sites. Now, I focus on using a combination of Figma and WordPress to create innovative websites.

1You.
Design is Bespoke. Over the years studying design and experience within the field, it has became clear to me that design is selective. What someone else may like, someone else may hate. It is important to understand the Clients absolute requirements and needs in order to be able to distinguish the aspects left to play with.
Once highlighting the ‘Musts’, I have found that the rest is easy. Coming up with multiple concepts to put forward to the client is important, their input throughout a process ensures the design stays on track.

2Execution.
Execution is key. Perfection isn’t easy and can be very rarely met, but I push to be able to execute designs to the highest possible quality and standards.
I am constantly trying to find ways to improve my design processes and methods as well as my creative side itself. Keeping up with the latest trends and competing websites help massively when designing a themed website – understanding the market is key.

3IT.
From a young age, I have always had an interest in computers – software, gaming and anything else where I could use my imagination would capture my attention for hours. ‘The Sims’ had a massive positive effect on me growing up, the full control over the personalisation and design of different aspects of the game had me perfecting both Sims and their houses for hours.
Now, programmes like Adobe, Figma and WordPress are key to what I do. As well as being able to code in HTML, CSS and implement Javascript and C# to create a MVC site from scratch.

4Trust.
Trust is so powerful. As a designer, it is important to understand exactly what has been asked of you. Listening and asking the right questions is essential when trying to understand a brief. Misunderstanding the brief could be costly especially when time is of the essence.
Trust works both ways – designers need to be able to trust clients to supply us with all we need in order for us to create the best possible outcome that is exactly what is wanted.

5Why.
So why ‘UXITY’? Well, I like UX design, I’m based in Coventry City and it’s slightly cooler than just going by Steph.
After studying Product Design, UX/UI was definitely where my interest focused. Wanting a career in this field meant creating a portfolio and personal brand was key. I need to be able to showcase my skills in order to impress and move forward within the industry.
